26/01/2011 SG in UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT PROGRAMME - Follow-up of launch and Plan of Activities
Following the launch of the United Nations Academic Impact held in New York on 18-19 November 2010 in which the SG President, Prof. John Tuppen, participated, a plan of activities and report were produced.

Academic Impact is a global initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations in actively supporting ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, literacy, sustainability and conflict resolution. The Academic Impact also asks each participating college or university to actively demonstrate support of at least one of those principles each year.

PLAN OF ACTIVITIES

Ten global hubs corresponding to each of UNAI's ten governing principles were created and are seeking for expressions of interest for each theme. Below is the list of the ten institutions which will serve in this capacity for two years. Their mandate will include the following responsibilities:

  • Maintaining on their websites repositories of activities undertaken in respect of the specific principle by member institutions during the year and sharing best practices
  • Developing a database of academic experts who could participate in conferences, media opportunities and the like on the principle.

The first event for 2011 is the Education for All e-discussions.

This will take the form of a series of four consecutive e-discussions to be moderated by four UNAI members and hosted on the UNAI Facebook page from mid-February to mid-March 2011. Acting as rapporteur, a fifth UNAI member will prepare a short report in collaboration with the Office for ECOSOC Support and Coordination.
