31/01/2012 ESMU - MODERN PROJECT: PROFESSIONALISATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION MANAGEMENT
The Santander Group is an associate partner in the MODERN project since 2011 and had the opportunity to attend the Engaging in the Modernisation Agenda for Higher Education Institutions conference in Brussels on January 30 2012.
The seminar focused on EU communication, its impact on higher education institutions and the future opportunities it will offer in the new programmes under the next multiannual financial framework.

MODERN is a three-year EU-funded project (2009-2011) under the Lifelong Learning Programme (ERASMUS), which aims to respond to the Modernisation Agenda of the European Union and to the need to invest in people, support future leaders and encourage the professionalisation of higher education management (HEM) at all levels. Under the leadership of ESMU, MODERN is a consortium of 10 core and 31 associate partners who have joined forces to provide a structured answer to the fragmentation in the supply of  management support to HEIs, their leaders and managers. The overall objective is to ensure HEIs' competitiveness to meet challenges in their external environment and respond to the needs of society.

Other MODERN project activities include a workshop on Leading and managing internationalization, Executive leadership workshop, in Brussels on 31 January 2012, a workshop on Leading and managing successful faculties and schools at the University of Warwick on 27-28 March 2012, and the CEU-ESMU Executive Programme for Senior University Leaders, a training programme in Budapest between 12-17 February 2012.
