Welcome to the Santander Group
The Santander Group is a European Universities Network founded in May 1992 in Spain with the aim of establishing special academic, cultural and socio-economic ties and of setting up specific and advanced facilities as well as privileged channels of information and exchange.The Group was also created to encourage contacts between universities and their surrounding communities or regions on matters related to social and technological development.

The European Commission, under the auspices of the Czech Presidency of the EU, has organised the Erasmus Mundus (2009-2013) Launch Conference on the 16th and 17th February 2009. The Executive Committee of the Euromed Permanent University Forum that took place in the Santander Group Office in Brussels on 22nd January this year. We hosted representatives from non-EU Mediterranean countries such as Hassan Nadir Kheirallah University of Alexandria, (Egypt), University of Mohamed V, Agdal (Morocco), University of Tunis, (Tunisia), University Saint Joseph University of Beyrouth (Lebanon), Prrincess Sumayya University, Jordan Tampere Polytechnic.The European partners were represented by the University of Rovira i Virgili in Spain, University of Applied Sciences in Finland, University of Foggia in Italy, and the European Universities Networks the Compostella Group and the Santander Group.... read more
The European Council Resolution (November 2007) clearly recognises the need to accelerate reforms in HEIs to foster their competitiveness, and explicitly invites Member States to take the necessary measures to enable HEIs to improve their management practices. However, national progress reports on the Lisbon Agenda fail to address the issues of the modernization of Higher Education. In HEIs, not enough progress is made in terms of improved governance, curriculum reforms and contribution to innovation and economic growth; Overall not enough priority is given to the need to invest in people and train them adequately for increasingly complex management positions. A climate must be created to point to the importance of investing in the professionalisation of HEIs both at the EU, national and institutional level. ... read more
